Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cosmetic Tattoo The Same As A Regular Tattoo?

Kind of. It’s pretty much the same procedure but it has different results. The main difference is that we don’t insert the needle as deep into the skin (also why it hurts less!) and the colours / pigments we use are semi-permanent so they don’t last as long.

Regular tattoos typically last for at least 10 years before the colours begin to fade. Permanent makeup only lasts about 2 years before requiring a touch up.

Is My Cosmetic Tattoo Permanent?

While cosmetic tattooing is also known as permanent makeup, this is kind of false advertising. A more accurate description is that cosmetic tattoo semi-permanent makeup because the tattoo usually last between 2 to 3 years depending on your skin tone and condition. If you’re a sun worshipper, the colours will fade quicker and you will need a touch up sooner. This also enables you to change your look more frequently so that you can keep up with the latest fashion.

Does A Cosmetic Tattoo Hurt?

While we all have different pain thresholds, we can confidently say that it hurts much less than a regular tattoo because we don’t insert the needle as deep. We also use anaesthetic creams to numb the impacted area to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you.

What Type Of Cosmetic Tattoo Procedures Can You Get?

The most common cosmetic tattoos are eyebrows, eyeliner and lips creating a look like you have applied a cosmetic makeup product. Shaded eyeliner is an extremely skilled procedure and one that Emi specialises in. More clients are seeing the time and cost savings in getting permanent makeup to save them time applying makeup in the morning and removing the need to buy expensive makeup products.

What Is The Healing Process For Cosmetic Tattoo?

You may have slight swelling depending on your skin and area you are having tattooed. Usually, the swelling will last one to two days. You may also have slight scabbing of the skin. We recommend clients to avoid direct sunlight for 2 weeks and to keep the affected area dry (away from water) for the first few days. This ensures the quickest healing and the best results for your cosmetic tattoo.Your procedure has 2 parts. The initial procedure and then a touch-up 4-6 weeks after the first procedure to give you the perfect finish to your look.

Are The Pigments Used In Cosmetic Tattooing Safe?

We only use the highest quality pigments, materials and equipment to ensure you get the best and longest lasting results. The pigments are non-reactive and specially manufactured to be used on human skin. They contain no iron and do not discolour the skin. We have a large selection of colours to suit different skin tones and styles so that you are happy with your new semi-permanent makeup look.

What If I Don’t Like The Cosmetic Tattoo I Have?

Some fashion trends come and go so it is only natural that clients may wish to change their look. No worries, Emi has been trusted by many of her clients to redo the work done by other cosmetic tattoo professionals. The first step is having the previous work removed with laser removal. Emi needs a blank canvas to give you the perfect look. Even though it’s known as permanent makeup, it is actually semi-permanent and can be easily removed via laser.

How Bright Is The Colour Of A Cosmetic Tattoo?

The colour immediately after your procedure will be darker and brighter initially so don’t worry if you think it’s a little more vibrant than what you were expecting. On average, you will lose about 20%-40% of the colour intensity during the first 2 weeks of the healing process (lips can lose up to 50%). How much colour is lost depends on your skin tone and type as well as how closely you follow your after care instructions. The final results will look like you applied a pencil, only a little softer and more natural.

How Long Will My Cosmetic Tattoo Last?

Cosmetic tattoos are not permanent. Depending on your skin tone, condition, the amount of sun you get and the area that we’re working on, your semi-permanent makeup will last anywhere between 2 and 4 years. With most customers, we usually do a touch up every 2 years to ensure their look remains beautiful and perfect.
